Using Campbellton as a base I have made short trips to some beautiful mountainous areas. First I traveled to Mt. Katahdin in Baxter State Park in Maine. I was able to hike along the Knife Edge trail and it certainly did not disappoint. In August I was finally able to visit the Chic Choc mountains on the Gaspe Peninsula and hiked 75km along their length over three days. I look forward to returning to them in winter.

Beautiful late summer weather in Maine.

Clouds burning off in the morning.

I’m pretty hard on my knees – knee warmers keep them warm and pain free.

Looking south towards the Knife Edge trail.

Almost excessively well marked trails in the Chic Chocs.

A surprisingly large lake in the mountains.

One of the six moose we saw in three days.

The midpoint of our traverse.

Wild chicken!

Stream or footpath?

Rest whenever you can – note rock being used as pillow.

Fascinating landscape.

Beginning our descent.

Almost home.

My boots have been with me a long time, and I consider them worth their weight in gold.
