New Zealand

In February, Laura and I set off for a quick trip to the southern hemisphere. The trip was built around attending my brother in law’s wedding in Perth – Western Australia. We started our trip with an extended weekend in Vancouver and then flew to Auckland NZ where our friend Josephine met us and spent a few days showing us her native country.

Our trip began with a snowy weekend in Vancouver, and then a flight to Fiji and on to Auckland.
From Auckland we drove north towards the Cape Brett Peninsula.
Our friend Josephine did an amazing job of organizing the hike.
Enjoying the heat and exotic vegetation – quite a change from winter in Calgary!
Fortunately there was a fair amount of shade on the walk.
And a lovely deep cove to swim in.
Flowers to admire.
Next we need to get right to the end of this peninsula.
Up and down we go.
And up again!
The Cape Brett hut is in sight.
A lovely place to spend the evening.
And to watch the sunset.

After sunset the night sky was spectacular with no light pollution at all in the area.

Taking a snack break on the return journey.
Pacific ocean bliss.
Heading back south – Whangarei Falls.
Kauri tree forest.
Fish and chips on the beach at Matapouri.
Beautiful trees on Tiritiri Matangi island.
A remarkable tree in Auckland.
