Haida Gwaii

Between some of the trips documented in the Autumn 2022 post, we also took time off work to visit Haida Gwaii. Specifically we took an overnight ferry from Prince Rupert and spent our time on the northern of the two main islands – Graham Island.

We began our trip right off the ferry by watching a beautiful sunrise over the Hecate Strait.

The Haida people have a strong woodcarving tradition.

We spent a portion of our stay at the north of Graham Island, in the community of Masset.

Specifically, we stayed at the Copper Beech House.

We swam in the cold waters.

We explored lush rainforest – but got very little actual rainfall during our stay!

There were lots of mysterious streams to explore.

Moss was abundant.

We found freshwater lakes inland to swim in.

We also spotted some carnivorous plants along the lakeshore!

The skies gave us a really beautiful send off on our last evening before re-boarding the ferry.

We even found a rope swing to enjoy.
